Account Deletion & Data Retention Policy
Last Updated: July 2026
1. Introduction
At PawSignal Tech, we believe that you should remain in control of your personal information and your relationship with our services.
This Account Deletion & Data Retention Policy explains what happens when you choose to delete your Fyndit Account, how your information is handled throughout the deletion process, what information may be retained, and the legal reasons why certain records cannot always be removed immediately.
This Policy should be read together with our:
• Terms of Service
• Privacy Policy
• Community Guidelines
• Content Moderation Policy
Each document explains a different aspect of your relationship with Fyndit and PawSignal Tech.
2. Our Commitment
We respect your right to leave the Fyndit community at any time.
Deleting your Account should be straightforward, transparent and understandable.
We are committed to:
• providing an easy-to-use account deletion process;
• explaining what information will be deleted;
• explaining what information may be retained;
• complying with applicable privacy and data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR);
• protecting the integrity of the Fyndit community;
• and meeting the requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play.
3. How to Delete Your Account
You may permanently request deletion of your Fyndit Account directly from within the application.
At the time of writing, the deletion option is available by navigating to:
Profile → Account → Delete Account
Before your request is processed, you may be asked to confirm your identity or verify your intention to prevent accidental or unauthorised deletion.
Once your deletion request has been confirmed, the process described in this Policy will begin.
If you are unable to access your Account, you may also request deletion by contacting our support team using the contact details provided at the end of this Policy.
4. What Happens When You Request Deletion
When we receive a valid deletion request, we begin a structured process designed to protect both your privacy and the integrity of the platform.
Depending on the circumstances, this process may include:
• verifying your identity;
• confirming the deletion request;
• disabling access to your Account;
• scheduling the deletion of personal information;
• removing or anonymising certain content;
• retaining information where legally required;
• and securely deleting remaining information once applicable retention periods have expired.
During this process, your Account may no longer be accessible.
Some information may disappear immediately, while other information may require additional time to be permanently removed from our systems.
5. Immediate Effects of Account Deletion
Once your deletion request has been processed:
• you will no longer be able to sign in using the deleted Account;
• your profile will no longer be publicly accessible;
• your Guardian Network participation will end;
• your trust score, achievements and community reputation may be permanently removed;
• your personal settings and preferences may be deleted;
• access to Direct Messages may be removed;
• notifications associated with your Account will cease;
• and services linked to your Account may no longer function.
Deleting your Fyndit Account does not automatically cancel subscriptions, memberships or third-party services that may be managed separately.
Where applicable, those services should be cancelled using the appropriate provider's procedures.
6. Information We Delete
Subject to applicable law and the exceptions described in this Policy, we aim to permanently delete or irreversibly anonymise personal information associated with your Account.
Examples of information that may be deleted include:
• your profile information;
• account preferences;
• profile photographs;
• uploaded media associated solely with your Account;
• authentication credentials;
• notification preferences;
• personal settings;
• device associations where appropriate;
• and other personal information that is no longer required for legitimate business or legal purposes.
Deletion is performed using reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect your privacy.
7. Information We May Retain
Although our objective is to remove your personal information wherever reasonably possible, certain information may need to be retained after your Account has been deleted.
Retention may be necessary to:
• comply with applicable laws;
• satisfy tax or accounting obligations;
• resolve legal disputes;
• enforce our Terms of Service;
• investigate fraud or security incidents;
• protect the rights, property or safety of users, animals or PawSignal Tech;
• maintain system security;
• or fulfil other legitimate legal or regulatory obligations.
Where information must be retained, access is restricted to authorised personnel and the information is protected using appropriate security measures.
We retain only the information that is reasonably necessary for these purposes.
8. Community Content After Deletion
Fyndit is a community platform where reports and contributions may continue to provide value to other users even after the original author has left the Service.
For this reason, some community content may remain available following Account deletion.
Where appropriate, such content may be:
• anonymised;
• dissociated from your profile;
• displayed without identifying information;
• or retained where necessary to preserve the integrity of community discussions or historical records.
Examples may include:
• reports relating to missing pets;
• community hazard reports;
• pet-friendly place submissions;
• historical event information;
• comments that remain relevant to ongoing discussions;
• or other community contributions.
Where content contains personal information that is no longer necessary, we will seek to remove or anonymise that information whenever reasonably possible.
9. Direct Messages
Deleting your Account does not necessarily remove messages that have already been delivered to other users.
Messages form part of a conversation shared between participants.
Accordingly:
• copies of conversations may remain visible to recipients;
• your profile information may be removed or anonymised where appropriate;
• messages may remain where necessary to preserve conversation integrity;
• and certain records may be retained where required for legal, security or abuse prevention purposes.
Where technically and legally feasible, identifying information associated with deleted Accounts will be minimised or removed.
10. Guardian Network Reputation
The Guardian Network is built around active community participation.
When an Account is permanently deleted:
• Guardian Network participation ends;
• trust scores may be permanently removed;
• achievements and badges may be deleted;
• community rankings may be updated;
• reputation associated with the deleted Account may no longer be recoverable.
Deleted Guardian Network status cannot generally be transferred to a newly created Account.
This helps preserve the integrity and fairness of the Guardian Network.
11. Backup Systems
To protect against accidental data loss, security incidents and system failures, PawSignal Tech maintains secure backup systems.
Information scheduled for deletion may temporarily remain within encrypted backup environments until those backups are securely overwritten or expire according to our backup retention procedures.
Backup copies:
• are not used to restore deleted Accounts during normal operations;
• remain protected by appropriate technical and organisational safeguards;
• are accessible only where necessary for disaster recovery, legal compliance or system restoration;
• and are removed in accordance with our backup lifecycle.
This temporary retention is a normal part of secure information management and does not mean your Account remains active.
12. Legal Retention Requirements
Certain information cannot always be deleted immediately because PawSignal Tech may be required to retain it under applicable law.
Examples may include information retained for:
• financial reporting;
• tax obligations;
• fraud prevention;
• security investigations;
• legal proceedings;
• regulatory compliance;
• law enforcement requests;
• or other statutory obligations.
Where retention is required by law, the information will be retained only for the period necessary to satisfy the relevant legal obligation.
Once retention is no longer required, the information will be securely deleted or anonymised where appropriate.
13. Your Data Protection Rights
Deleting your Account is only one of the rights available to you under applicable data protection laws.
Depending on your location and the laws that apply, you may also have the right to:
• access your personal information;
• correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
• request the deletion of certain personal information;
• restrict or object to certain processing activities;
• request portability of eligible personal information;
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
• and lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority.
Submitting an Account deletion request does not prevent you from exercising any other rights available under applicable law.
Further information regarding these rights can be found in our Privacy Policy.
14. Deletion Requests Submitted by Others
To protect the privacy and security of our users, PawSignal Tech generally accepts Account deletion requests only from:
• the Account holder;
• a person legally authorised to act on behalf of the Account holder;
• or another individual where required by applicable law.
Before processing a deletion request, we may ask for reasonable information to verify identity or confirm legal authority.
This helps prevent unauthorised deletion requests and protects users from fraudulent activity.
15. Accounts Subject to Investigation
In certain circumstances, PawSignal Tech may delay or limit deletion of specific information where immediate deletion would interfere with:
• ongoing moderation investigations;
• fraud prevention activities;
• security investigations;
• legal proceedings;
• law enforcement requests;
• regulatory obligations;
• or other legitimate legal interests.
Where appropriate, the Account may be disabled while the relevant investigation or legal process is completed.
Once the applicable reason for retention no longer exists, remaining information will be deleted or anonymised in accordance with this Policy and applicable law.
16. Third-Party Services
Fyndit may integrate with third-party services to support certain features or functionality.
Deleting your Fyndit Account does not automatically delete information held independently by third-party providers where those providers act as separate data controllers.
Examples may include:
• authentication providers;
• payment processors;
• mobile operating system services;
• or other third-party services that maintain their own independent relationship with you.
Where such services apply, their own privacy policies and account management procedures will govern the deletion of information held by them.
We encourage users to review the privacy documentation of any third-party services they choose to use.
17. Security During the Deletion Process
Protecting your information remains important throughout the deletion process.
Until deletion has been completed, PawSignal Tech continues to apply appropriate technical and organisational security measures designed to protect your information from:
• unauthorised access;
• accidental disclosure;
• unlawful processing;
• alteration;
• loss;
• or destruction.
Deletion requests are processed using secure internal procedures intended to minimise the risk of accidental or unauthorised deletion.
18. Time Required to Complete Deletion
We aim to process verified Account deletion requests without undue delay.
The time required to complete deletion may vary depending on factors such as:
• system processing requirements;
• technical limitations;
• backup retention schedules;
• legal obligations;
• ongoing investigations;
• or the complexity of the information associated with the Account.
Where applicable law specifies a maximum response period, PawSignal Tech will endeavour to comply with those legal requirements.
Certain information may remain securely retained where permitted or required by law, even after the deletion process has otherwise been completed.
